BTEC Tech Award in Performing Arts with a Dance​​​​​​​

This course will give you the opportunity to develop knowledge and technical skills in a practical learning environment. You will also develop key skills, such as creating performance or design content for a real vocational scenario. 

Everyone taking this qualification will study three components, covering the following content areas: 

  • Component 1:

 Exploring the Performing Arts - developing an understanding of the performing arts including practitioners’ work and the processes used to create performance. Learners will produce a piece of coursework based on an exam board set assignment (PSA) which includes both written and practical exploration.

Worth 30% of final grade

  • Component 2:

Developing Skills and Techniques in the Performing Arts - development of performing arts skills and techniques through the reproduction of dance as performers. Learners will produce a piece of coursework based on an exam board set assignment (PSA) which includes a practical performance and an investigation into their own development as a dancer.

Worth 30% of final grade

  • Component 3: 

Responding to a Brief - contributing to a workshop performance as a performer in response to a given brief and stimulus. Learners will create a 7 minute choreography in response to a set stimulus. There will also be 3 written logs completed in exam conditions regarding the learners ideas, skills and a final evaluation. 

Externally assessed

Worth 40% of final grade

Learners have the opportunity to resit Component 1 and 2 if required.

Year 10

Term 1

Preparation for Component 2 including the development of performance skills and experiencing different styles of dance. 

Term 2

Component 2 - Developing Skills and Techniques in the Performing Arts

Term 3

Preparation for Component 1 and 3 including choreography tasks and the study of 3 professional works.
