Eco-Schools at Upton-by-Chester High School

Upton-by-Chester High School achieved the International Eco-Schools Green Flag Award in July 2012 and is currently working towards the Ambassador role.

There are 2 Eco-reps per form across the age range. The Eco-Schools Action Team involves pupils in each year group, the Premises Manager and the Canteen Manager. Over the past 4 years, Eco-leaders have carried out a formal environmental review and the Action Team has met to write a yearly action plan. The Action Team has also written an Eco-Code for the school which is displayed in all classrooms and around the school. Pupils have also carried out an online survey on how to best spend the funds raised and obtained over a 1000 responses. They will do assemblies across the age range to report on this and communicate fully with students across the school about future plans later on this term. Well done to all involved, the work you have done in raising awareness about sustainability and changing the mind-set across the school regarding recycling as well as litter issues has been outstanding and recognised through external assessment by Eco-Schools! Out of 174 schools in Cheshire West and Chester, only 24 schools hold the Green Flag Award (13%). Nationally, 326 schools in the North West hold the Green Flag Award out of a total of 1620 registered schools. Again, this is a tremendous achievement!
