As is traditional for the last day of the school year, learners will finish school at the earlier time of 1.20pm on Friday 17th July. Bus companies have been notified and will collect learners at the earlier time. 

Dear Parent/Carer,

New statutory guidance requires state funded schools in England to prohibit mobile phones throughout the entire school day.

The rules became law on June 29, 2026  and schools must fully implement these "phone-free" policies by September 1, 2026.

This is just a reminder of our current Mobile Phone Policy. The absence of mobile phones in our school undoubtedly has a positive impact on learning and progress.  Learners are more engaged in their work, more focused on what is going on around them in the classroom, and generally happier with their school experience.  Mobile phones are not allowed to be seen, heard or used in school and must be turned off and out of sight.  Headphones are also ‘classed’ as using a mobile phone because they are connected to a phone. Smartwatches can be worn but must not be used for anything other than telling the time. 

Mobile phones are also not used in the classroom for learning activities.  If the planned learning activity requires the use of technology, the teacher will provide a Chromebook/Computer access instead.

This applies to all pupils in years 7-13. There are a few exceptions to the mobile phone ban which are detailed below.

There are a few exceptions to this rule as follows.

• 6^th formers are permitted to use their phones for the purpose of their work in the cafe and the common room only.  They are not permitted to use them in any other study areas around the school.
• In exceptional circumstances, phones may be permitted by the teacher to upload work etc e.g. in Photography, Media and Textiles.
• Learners with certain medical needs will be permitted to use their phones (e.g. diabetes to monitor blood glucose).

School Trips/Visits

The trip leader will decide on the mobile phone policy that will apply to their trip/visit.  This may include one of the following:

• Mobile phones can be used by learners during the visit 
• Mobile phones need to remain at home during the visit 
• Mobile phones can be used at specific times during the visit

Mwantalasha Village Education Project is a charity that works to relieve poverty and improve access to education in the village of Mwantalasha, Zambia.

Poverty is widespread in Zambia, and families often have to prioritise spending on essential items. As a result, underwear for young girls is often considered a luxury and can be out of reach.  This year, alongside other donated clothing, they would like to send small bras, as these are rarely included in donations but are greatly needed.

If you have any small bras that are no longer needed and are in good condition, they would be very grateful if you could donate them. Please bring any donations to Mrs Benson in A11 by Tuesday 14th July.

Your generosity will make a real difference to the lives of young people in Mwantalasha.
