Headteacher's Message

It has been wonderful to welcome all the learners back to school this week helped no doubt by the fact that it feels like spring is in the air!

This week has been PPE (mock) week for Year 11 and this continues through to next week, where they will be undertaking assessments in their option subjects.  Learners have responded really well to this opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge that they have gained over the last two years.  We will be using the time following the mocks to ensure that learners get useful feedback to help them in their final preparations for their GCSE exams, which start in 10 school weeks!  We are confident that our learners will be very successful, but if there is any support you need in supporting your child please don't hesitate to contact us via the admin@uptonhigh.co.uk email.

Next week, each year group will have an external speaker in their assemblies.  The focus will be on careers and next steps.  We encourage all our learners to think about what they want from their time at Upton-by-Chester High School to support them in the future.  Having external speakers really helps our learners to set those goals.

Attendance is really important to school (I appreciate I am saying the obvious).  We know that there is a direct correlation between academic success and the time learners spend in school.  Whilst attendance at school is very good, we are always looking to continue to improve.  We appreciate your support in ensuring that every learner is in school every day that they can be.

I just wanted to update you on the new build.  As you are aware, there was an engagement event in December 2024 and, as a result of this, the design team are working through the feedback to ensure that we have the best possible design for the new school.  I will keep you informed on the progress as we are very keen to deliver the new build as soon as possible to benefit all of our learners both now and in the future.

Finally, next week is 'offer day'.  This is when we write to the parents/ carers of learners in Year 6 who have secured a place in Upton-by-Chester High School.  It is always a really exciting part of the year, and we look forward to welcoming new families to our school.  We are also using the next two weeks to meet with learners who have applied to join our outstanding Sixth Form.  This is to work with them on their option choices and support them in achieving this next step.

I wish you all a lovely weekend.

Mr L Cummins

Cheshire West 'Your Futures' Fair - Parents & Carers

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are pleased to announce that the Cheshire and Warrington Careers Hub, The Pledge Partnership, and Cheshire West and Cheshire Council are collaborating to organise a Your Futures event for young people with EHCPs/additional needs in Cheshire West.

Hosted Tuesday 4th March at Dee Banks School in Huntington, Chester, the fair will be organised similarly to that of the standard careers fairs with all schools being invited to attend particular slots during the day for students to meet employers and engage in interactive activities.

The day will include a parents and carers slot from 2pm-3pm, where families will be invited along to learn about Post 16/18 pathways and transition, and network with exhibitors. Cheshire West and Cheshire Council transition teams will also deliver talks for parents and carers on next steps and opportunities.

Parking will be available free of charge on the day, and sessions will be recorded to be shared with those unable to attend.
