Headteacher's Message

Welcome to this week's edition of the Parent/ Carer bulletin.

This week we observed remembrance day with a two-minute silence across the school to honour the courage and service of those in the military, past and present.

We also hosted sessions by Cheshire Police for all learners to hear about Operation Sceptre, which aims to educate young people on the facts, risks and law around knife crime.  Learners gained essential and key messages that will help them keep themselves and others safe from harm.

We have ended the week with non-uniform day in aid of Children in Need, donations have currently exceeded £1200 and we are still counting! Thank you for your support with this cause. Our next charitable endeavour is the Teams4U shoebox appeal, you can find further details of how to get involved further down the bulletin.

Next week our first group of year 8 and 9 learners will leave for their STEM London trip and we also look forward to welcoming Year 12 parents and carers who will meet with their child's form tutors to find out how they have settled in to Sixth Form. Our Year 11 learners will also start their PPE (mock) exams on Monday and we wish them the best of luck as they discover their strengths and areas to improve.

With very best wishes,

Mr L Cummins

Why Good Attendance Matters

Regular attendance is key to a learner’s success. Every lesson builds on the last, and missing sessions can make it harder for learners to keep up, affect confidence, and impact achievement.

At Upton-by-Chester High School, we work closely with parents and carers to support excellent attendance. If your child is absent, please inform the school office as soon as possible via (01244) 259800 or admin@uptonhigh.co.uk and provide a clear reason. Tutors and pastoral staff monitor attendance carefully and will contact parents/ carers if patterns of absence arise.

By attending school consistently, learners not only improve academically but also develop responsibility, resilience, and readiness for future opportunities. Together, we can help every learner achieve their best.

A reminder that learners, including those in our 6th form, must be on site by 8.35 a.m. ready for registration at 8.40 a.m. Registers close at 9.15 a.m. and arrival after this time will result in a U code (unauthorised morning absence)

Thank you for your continued support.

T4U Shoebox Appeal

We are pleased to announce that we are working with Teams4U over the coming weeks to help and support others through the Christmas Shoebox Appeal.

We invite you to support us in creating as many shoeboxes as we can for children, aged 3 to 12+ years old, in Eastern Europe bringing them much needed joy and excitement this festive season.

There are 2 ways you can support us:

1. Donate items so that we can collate multiple donations to make a shoebox within a form group.

2. Donate a completed shoebox.

In both cases above these items, or shoebox, should be returned to your child’s form tutor before, and no later than Thursday 20 November 2025.

What items can go in the shoebox?

Please choose a selection of items from those suggested below (more ideas are available on the Teams4U website) but please do not include anything from the ‘NO’ list. Items should be new, however, preloved items in good condition are acceptable.

For boys or girls: Toothbrush & toothpaste, hair accessories/brush, soap & face cloth, stationery & paper, gloves, hat & scarf, new socks/underwear, a soft toy, game, puzzle, small musical instruments, toy vehicles, small ball, sweets (use by date from June), a photo and message from yourself.

The company ask that we do not add any:

Food (only exception is sweets), medicines, military themed items, anything highly flammable, sharp items, novels. No sanitary items in shoeboxes although they can be sent out separately.

A reminder that you can support our work by bringing in items from within the list above, or indeed a completed shoe box.

If you do provide a completed shoe box, please inform us by writing on the box who the box is designed for. The information we require is:

  • Whether the box is for a Boy or Girl

and

  • Which age group: 3-5, 6-11, or 12+ years old.

We look forward to seeing our Upton-by-Chester High School community come together once again for a fantastic cause.

Kind regards,

Mr Lewis
