Headteacher's Message

Welcome to the first bulletin of the new half-term.

As always, it has been a pleasure to welcome learners back to school after the October break.  Learners have responded really positively to being back at school, and we have seen some really wonderful work from them throughout this week.

In the first week, we held the Careers Fair and our Sixth Form open evening.

The Careers Fair gives all learners in the school the opportunity to engage with over forty providers of careers / post-16 education.  The purpose of this is to allow all learners to start to think about what their future aspirations may be and to aim for a goal.  We have been really pleased that each year more and more local companies and providers of education attend this event.  Learners gained a great deal from attending the event.

Yesterday afternoon / evening we hosted our Sixth Form open evening, which was very well attended.  The evening gave learners a flavour of the courses that will be on offer next year and the support that we can provide as a Sixth Form.  As one of the most successful Sixth Forms in the area, we were delighted to be able to welcome so many internal and external candidates to this event.

Next week we are looking forward to a further careers event, which parents in Year 7 and 8 will have received an email about.  We are also looking forward to welcoming Year 7 and Year 12 parents and carers to a face-to-face Meet the Tutor Evening.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Regards,

L Cummins

Other School News

Adverse Weather Procedure

Please find below a reminder of the procedure for closure of the school due to adverse weather.

In the unlikely event of a closure, we will communicate quickly and as fully as possible with all members of the school community.   This will be carried out as per the guidance below.

In the event of extreme weather / emergency prior to the start of the school day.

A decision will be made between 6.00 am and 7.00 am as to whether the school should be open or needs to be closed. In the event of closure, the school will, by 7.30am ensure that:

• An automated text or email message is sent to parents and staff via the SchoolComms system

• The school website has been updated

• An update is available on our social twitter account

• Local media will be informed as appropriate

In the event of extreme weather / emergency during the school day.

If the school is open but exceptional conditions occur during the day, we will continually monitor the risks.  It is very often safer to keep learners in school rather than closing the school. However, there may be cases where this is not possible.

Should the decision be taken to close the school we will inform parents via;

• An automated text or email message sent from the SchoolComms system

• A posting within the news section of the school website

• An update on our twitter account

We will also encourage learners to contact home.   We understand that it may be difficult for some parents to collect their child and therefore contingency plans will be put in place to ensure that the school remains open, where possible, until all learners are collected.

Non-Uniform Day for Children in Need Friday 15th November

Armistice Day Monday 11th November

As a mark of respect, and commitment to the Armed Forces, any learners who are in the cadets (Army/Air/Sea) have permission to attend school on Mon 11th November in their cadet uniform. They will be invited to observe the 2-minute silence together, along with Mrs Bassett, on the school yard.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs D Bassett
