Headteacher's Message

This week has been another busy week so I have just picked a couple of the highlights to share with you.

The Languages Department and year 10 French learners welcomed 49 French learners on Tuesday 10th March. The school were visiting the area and spent 3 hours completing speaking activities together in the school hall and then were taught how to play netball by Mrs Towers and our amazing sports leaders. The visit was a wonderful opportunity for our learners to practise their French and the learners from the school from the north of France near Lille was able to practise their English and learn a little bit more about British schools. Our visitors were very impressed by our year 10 French learners. Merci beaucoup!

Our Year 13 team romped to success in Wrexham University on Monday night in the regional round of the rotary competition. We beat the best schools from North Wales and Crewe. The speakers: Grace, Maria and Isabella were phenomenal and well deserving of their victory. We now await news of a potential Northern final.

This week I have asked each Year Team to identify someone in their year group who has demonstrated one of the values of our school.  Their names are shown below.  On Monday I am going to meet with each of the learners to congratulate them on their achievement.  I am hoping this can become a regular feature of my bulletin to parents and carers.

With very best wishes,

Mr L Cummins

Homework Year 7-13

Dear Parents and Carers,

Show My Homework (Satchel One)  is where all homework details will be posted for Parents/Carers and Learners to access.  Parents/Carers can see the instructions, and the due dates for each piece of homework.

We expect learners to check their Show My Homework account daily to ensure that they organise their week, in order to complete set tasks on time.  Evidence based research and our experience tells us that homework completion significantly improves learners' progress.  The research also informs us that when Parents/Carers are involved and supportive with homework, learners’ progress is even further enhanced.  This additional progress can be up to an additional 5 months of progress per year!

It is fantastic to see that the majority of our Parents/Carers are  engaging with the platform regularly and checking the homework tasks that have been set so far.  However, we are keen to support all Parents/Carers in using this platform and so if you are having any difficulties using the platform please do get in touch with me.

Incomplete homework

We do not use the markbook facility on Show My Homework.  When homework has not been completed on time the teacher will put a question mark symbol (?) on the Edulink register.  To monitor the number of Homeworks not completed, Parents/Carers can access Edulink.

Common Questions and Answers for Parents/Carers

I have attached some answers to the common questions that Parents/Carers have had.  This can be accessed on the the following link Common questions for parents | Satchel Help Center

Once again, thank you for your ever continuing support, and please do get in touch if you need any further support with Show My Homework.

Kindest regards

Mrs Bradbury

Deputy Headteacher

Charity Week

In February, our Sixth Form learners enjoyed a hugely successful Charity Week, raising an impressive £3,668.10. Year 12 and Year 13 selected three charities, Maggie’s Cancer Support, SPACE Cheshire and Let’s Farm Winsford, each receiving £1,222.70. Earlier this week, representatives from Maggie’s visited the school to personally thank the learners who organised the events; their donation alone will fund a full year of support sessions for individuals and families affected by lung cancer. A heartfelt thank you to all our Sixth Formers, staff volunteers, the Sports Leadership team, and of course our learners and parents/carers whose generosity made this achievement possible.

Upton-by-Chester High School Alumni Success

We are delighted to share the success of former Upton-by-Chester High School student Jacob Gilder (stage name Jacob Conor), who is currently starring as Angus in Macbeth at Storyhouse Theatre in Chester—his first paid professional acting role. After leaving Upton, Jacob continued his passion for drama at West Cheshire College, achieving a triple star distinction and going on to take part in a variety of acting projects.
