Headteacher's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been a real pleasure to welcome all of our learners back to school this week. The vast majority have returned with a positive attitude to learning and have made an excellent start to the new term. I have been particularly impressed with our Year 11 and Year 13, who have come back with a clear sense of purpose and a strong focus on preparing for their forthcoming examinations.

Yesterday, a group of learners had the opportunity to attend a production of Noughts and Crosses as part of their Drama studies. They thoroughly enjoyed experiencing live theatre, and this will now serve as a valuable stimulus to support their ongoing learning in the classroom.

We were also delighted to host the Year 12 Learner Progress Evening yesterday. It was very well attended, and we hope it provided a valuable opportunity for productive discussions about how learners can maximise their potential and make the most of the support available to them in Year 12.

In this week’s newsletter, you will find a letter from Mrs McCarthy, Deputy Headteacher, outlining our plans for school uniform next year. These proposals are designed to ensure that we remain in line with the Government’s updated guidance. As you will see, we are currently proposing only minimal changes.

Looking ahead to next week, we are excited to see groups of Year 10 and Year 12 learners heading out on their Bronze and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions. These experiences provide invaluable opportunities for personal development, teamwork and resilience. We are also looking forward to welcoming Urenco into school to work with half of our Year 9 cohort, focusing on developing key employability skills.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

With very best wishes,

Mr L Cummins

Homework Year 7-13 Parents/Carers

Dear Parents and Carers,

Show My Homework (Satchel One)  is where all homework details will be posted for Parents/Carers and Learners to access.  Parents/Carers can see the instructions, and the due dates for each piece of homework.

We expect learners to check their Show My Homework account daily to ensure that they organise their week, in order to complete set tasks on time.  Evidence based research and our experience tells us that homework completion significantly improves learners' progress.  The research also informs us that when Parents/Carers are involved and supportive with homework, learners’ progress is even further enhanced.  This additional progress can be up to an additional 5 months of progress per year!

It is fantastic to see that the majority of our Parents/Carers are  engaging with the platform regularly and checking the homework tasks that have been set so far.  However, we are keen to support all Parents/Carers in using this platform and so if you are having any difficulties using the platform please do get in touch with me.

Incomplete homework

We do not use the markbook facility on Show My Homework.  When homework has not been completed on time the teacher will put a question mark symbol (?) on the Edulink register.  To monitor the number of Homeworks not completed, Parents/Carers can access Edulink.

Common Questions and Answers for Parents/Carers

I have attached some answers to the common questions that Parents/Carers have had.  This can be accessed on the the following link Common questions for parents | Satchel Help Center

Once again, thank you for your ever continuing support, and please do get in touch if you need any further support with Show My Homework.

Kindest regards

Mrs Bradbury

Deputy Headteacher

School Uniform

Dear Parents and Carers,

You may be aware of the government’s intention to introduce new requirements for school uniforms. Legislation is currently being considered by parliament and would limit the number of compulsory branded items of uniform and PE kit items from September 2026.

For secondary schools, this is 4 branded items IF one is a tie.

We have reviewed our current school uniform and removed some PE items from the compulsory list. By doing so, we are satisfied that we are adhering to this guidance.

COMPULSORY branded items- ALL learners Yr 7-11

1

Blazer with school Logo and Halls braid

2

PE Sky Blue Polo Shirt with school Logo

3

 School Tie

Other school uniform items, including black skirt/ trousers, white shirt, black V-neck jumper and socks can be purchased from a range of low- cost retailers but should comply with Upton-by-Chester High Schools uniform guidelines.

Black skirts must be worn at an appropriate length, and shoes should be logo free and ‘polishable.’

If you choose to purchase the non-branded version of PE items, then please ensure that there are no visible sports logos.
