Upton-by-Chester High School celebrates outstanding GCSE results

Learners at Upton-by-Chester High School are celebrating an outstanding set of GCSE results, with this year’s outcomes among some of the strongest in the school’s history.

These excellent results are the culmination of many years of commitment from learners and staff, alongside the invaluable encouragement and support provided by parents and carers. They reflect the strength of the partnership between home and school and a shared determination to ensure every young person is given the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

Headteacher Lee Cummins said: “We are incredibly proud of our learners and everything they have achieved. This is an exceptional set of results and one of the strongest we have seen at Upton-by-Chester High School.”

“Behind every grade is a young person who has worked hard, overcome challenges and shown real commitment to their education. More than 80% of our learners achieving the expected standard in both English and Mathematics is a tremendous achievement and reflects the consistently high expectations we have for our young people.”

“I would also like to recognise the exceptional work of our staff. Their expertise, dedication and commitment to our learners, both inside and outside the classroom, have played a hugely important part in these results. Equally important has been the support of our parents and carers. The relationship between learners, families and staff is at the heart of our school community and has contributed enormously to this year’s success.”

For many learners, results day also marks the beginning of the next stage of their journey at Upton-by-Chester High School, with a significant number choosing to continue their studies by joining the school’s successful Sixth Form in September.

Mr Cummins added: “One of the great pleasures of results day is knowing that we will welcome many of these young people back in September as members of our Sixth Form. We are excited to see them take that next step with us and build on everything they have already achieved.”

“For those moving on to colleges, apprenticeships and other opportunities, we are equally proud. Our aim is for every learner to leave Upton-by-Chester High School with the qualifications and character to embrace their next challenge, and we wish all members of the Class of 2026 every success.”

The school would also like to recognise the achievements of learners across the entire cohort. Alongside the many outstanding individual academic results, there are countless stories of exceptional progress, perseverance and personal achievement.

Some of our highest achievers in 2026 are: Lucy Harris achieving 9 grade 9s and 1 grade 8, Astrid Gruber achieving 7 grade 9s and 2 grade 8s, Isla Carmichael 7 grade 9s and 3 grade 8s, Anna Dangerfield 6 grade 9s and 3 grade 8s, Anya Reddy 7 grade 9s, 1 grade 8 and 1 grade 7, Dhanika Behariram 7 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s and 1 grade 7, William Foden 7 grade 9s, 1 grade 8 and 1 grade 6, Jamie Green 6 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s and 1 grade 7, Oliver Brassington 7 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s and 1 grade 6, Edith Carr  5 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s and 2 grade 7s, Jennifer Griffiths 5 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s and 2 grade 7s, Isla Hope 3 grade 9s, 5 grade 8s, and 1 grade 7, Hector Boudes 6 grade 9s, 1 grade 8, 2 grade 7s and 1 grade 6,  and Jack Wearing 5 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s and 3 grade 7s.
