Royal Cheshire County Show visit

Yesterday a group of GCSE Food & Nutrition learners attended a trip to the Royal Cheshire County Show. The visit involved watching high profile local chefs dice, slice and season sizzling barbeque summer family feasts in the 'food live theatre.'

Brilliantly barbequing a bulky pork chop, topped with a zesty crème fraiche sauce was Ellis Barrie, TV personality of Ready, Steady, Cook and Saturday Kitchen fame. Ellis, owner and head chef of Lerpwl, Royal Albert Dock, Liverpool, emphasised to our learners the positive lifestyle and benefits of a career in the food industry and shared many a funny story of his youth roasting pigs on spits, burning down marquees and serving brimming bowls of mussels from a caravan park’s shower block on Anglesey, bringing him initial fame!

In addition to this, the year 10 learners enjoyed tasting food samples at the food market and roaming the Show’s exhibition halls, watching show jumping, viewing classic cars, dog shows and rabbit, pigeon and cavies. The Women’s Institute were judging the victoria sponge and serving it as well with tea. Visitors could ride a monster truck and the Ferris wheel. The rain tumbled down for 10 minutes, but didn’t dampen spirits, as 26 budding chefs along with Mrs Sievers & Ms Hounslow enjoyed ‘all the fun of the fair’. Thank you to Mr Carrigan for being the official trip photographer on the day.
