Zoology Careers Breakfast

Dr Gerardo Garcia, Head of cold blooded animals at Chester Zoo, visited Upton on Wednesday to share his experiences with reptiles and amphibians as part of our series of Careers Breakfasts.

He talked about working at Jersey Zoo for 9 years with Gerald Durrell, and alongside David Attenborough on the programme ‘Reptiles and Amphibians: Guardians of the Wild’.

Gerardo’s key message to learners was, pursue your passion, develop your skills and gain valuable experience. He brought with him a collection of items including the skull of a crocodile captured in a trap that couldn’t be rescued, and a gastrolith stomach stone that aids digestion in herbivores. He talked about how he had travelled around the world to focus on the conservation of endangered species and that when you pursue your passion the possibilities are limitless!
