Adverse Weather Statement
Procedure to be used in the event of extreme weather conditions or other reason for the closure of the school.
We are committed to minimising disruption to the education of our learners and always try to keep the school open. There are however, very rare occasions when it may be necessary for us to close the school fully or partially.
In the unlikely event of a closure, we will communicate quickly and as fully as possible with parents / carers as follows.
If the decision to close the school is made before the start of the school day.
A decision will be made between 6.00 am and 7.00 am as to whether the school should be open, partially open (i.e., open to selected year groups) or needs to be closed. In the event of closure, by 7.30 am (wherever possible), the school will ensure that:
· An email message is sent to parents / carers and staff
· The school website will be updated to highlight the school closure.
· An update is available on the school’s Facebook and Twitter/X.
· A message will be placed on the school’s telephone system informing all callers that the school is closed or partially closed.
If the decision to close the school is made during the school day.
Obviously, closing the school during the school day is more challenging. It would only be enacted if absolutely necessary. We would monitor the risks throughout the day. As part of the risk assessment, we would be considering school transport and weather advice.
Should the decision be taken to close the school we will inform parents via:
· An email message will be sent to all parents / carers.
· The school's website will be updated to highlight the school closure.
· An update on the school’s Facebook and Twitter/X.
We understand that it may be difficult for some parents / carers to collect their child and therefore contingency plans will be put in place to ensure that the school remains open until all learners are collected.
