Introducing The New Year 7 Form Tutors, 2021-22
Ms Ellis-Brown, Year 7 Tutor, 2021-22
Hello Year 6!
My name is Ms Ellis-Brown and I have been an English teacher at Upton-by-Chester High School for six years. I often visit primary schools in my role as KS3 Coordinator for English; some of you may recognise me if you visited Upton last year for the 'Year 5 Literacy Challenge'.
It should go without saying that I enjoy reading and there is nothing I love more than reading a good book with a hot cuppa. When I was younger, I devoured the Harry Potter books and I loved reading Malorie Blackman's 'Noughts & Crosses', but my favourite book is 'Jane Eyre' by Charlotte Brontë.
Let me know if you have any book recommendations!
As your form tutor, I am here to help you, listen to your concerns and offer support throughout your time at Upton. I look forward to meeting you all soon.
Mr Buckley, Year 7 Tutor, 2021-22
Hello soon-to-be Upton learners!
I am part of the Year 7 team, which means that some of you will be in my tutor group next year.
As part of your year team, it is my job to make sure that you are thriving in school and meeting the standards that we expect for all learners.
I am also a computer science teacher, which means that I teach about how the inside of a computer works and how to write programs to get computers to do interesting things.
If you see me around school, come and speak to me about new technology.
Miss Radvilaite, Year 7 Tutor, 2021-22
Hello incoming Year 7s!
My name is Miss Radvilaite and I am one of the lucky few to have the privilege of welcoming you all to our school as a form tutor!
I am one of the English teachers here at Upton, and of course that comes with an obligatory love of books! I'm working my way through and loving the Earthsea Quartet at the moment, and I can't wait to hear all of your recommendations, too.
As you can tell by my funny name, I am not originally from here. I moved to the UK from Lithuania in the summer before I started my Year 7, so if you are feeling a little nervous about your transition to high school, I definitely know how you feel.
Here's a secret though- you needn't worry! Upton is a fabulous school which will welcome you with open arms, and I am sure you will feel right at home in no time.
I can't wait to meet you all - see you in September!
Mr Ellis, Year 7 Tutor, 2021-22
Hello Future Year 7 Learners!
Exciting times ahead – you are starting your secondary school journey here at Upton High School!
My name is Mr Ellis and I am a Business Studies teacher at Upton. I love my subject and sharing it with others, so you might hear me talking about funny adverts or businesses bringing new things for us to do in the area!
I am also relatively new to the school as this will be my second year here, so you need not worry about any changes because we will experience them together.
Outside of school I like taking big adventures in the outdoors with my family and dog (she loves the beach!) and I am a big movie buff – so you can tell me all about your favourite movies too!
I look forward to welcoming you into the school and as a form tutor I will be working closely with you all to ensure you have a great school experience at Upton-by-Chester High School.
See you all soon!
Miss Richardson, Year 7 Tutor, 2021-22
Hello Year 6 Learners!
My name is Miss Richardson and the subject I teach at Upton is Geography.
As a Geography teacher I would be encouraging all of you to get involved in some of the fantastic initiatives we have in school, such as Eco-School council and in some of the wider fundraising events we organise through form time.
I love spending as much time as I can outdoors and when I am out of school I’ll often be out running or in the mountains. I am looking forward to hearing about some of your own adventures. You will usually find me around the Geography department unless there is cake somewhere else around the school.
My role as a form tutor is to support you throughout your time at Upton to ensure you enjoy your time here and feel you are part of the Upton High School community. Mostly it is to make sure you have fun, work hard, and achieve!
I look forward to meeting you all soon.
Mrs Vianello, Year 7 Tutor, 2021-22
Hello Year 6 Learners!
My name is Mrs Vianello and I have been a teacher at Upton High School for 16 years.
I teach History, R.E and PSHE, but I especially love teaching History. I am fascinated by the past and love the fact that Chester has so much history all around us.
However, one of my favourite roles at Upton is that of form tutor. I look forward to meeting you all and helping you settle into your new life at Upton. If you have any worries or concerns, no matter how big or small - I am here to help and guide you.
Please remember that you are never on your own. I am here to support you every day and I want you all to be happy and enjoy every experience that comes your way.
I have had two sons who attended Upton High School and they have now both completed their University Degrees. They both enjoyed their time here and have made lifelong friends as I’m sure you all will too.
Mrs Smale, Year 7 Tutor, 2021-22
Hello future Uptonians!
My name is Mrs Smale and I will be a form tutor with you next year. I have worked at Upton High School for 18 years now, so will have no problem showing you around. Both of my children have also attended the school too.
I am Head of Religious Studies at Upton and really enjoy teaching our learners all about different cultures, religions, values and beliefs. I also love my role as a form tutor and in my time at Upton have helped four tutor groups on their way through years 7-11.
I am really looking forward to welcoming you all, especially those of you who are placed with me as my very own new tutor group. As your form tutor, I will be so proud watching you progress, grow and smile.
I am so excited for you to be able to experience all of the amazing things that our school has to offer you and for me to have the privilege of sharing that journey with you.
See you all soon!
Mrs Finbow, Year 7 Tutor, 2021-22
Hi Year Sixes, nearly Year Sevens!
I am Mrs Finbow and I will be one of the Year 7 Form Tutors in September 2021. I am really looking forward to meeting you and getting to know you all as you make this exciting transition to Upton High School.
I have worked at Upton High School for 3 years now. I am a teacher of Geography, and as you can imagine, I am really passionate about caring for the environment, wildlife and being outdoors, and will love to hear about any adventures you have been on and interesting places you have visited.
My role as your form tutor is to help you feel happy and settled at Upton High School, which will be especially important in those first few weeks. At the same time, I will be giving you valuable knowledge about school expectations and your role in the wider school community and opportunities that you can get involved in. I will also be here to support you with your organisation, study skills and ensure you are making the best possible progress at high school.
See you in September!
Mr Fearon, Year 7 Tutor, 2021-22
Hi, I am Mr Fearon. I am the Head of History and Politics at the school and have been here for 3 years.
I love History and think it is the best subject you will have the chance to study at Upton. If some of you take the subject or Politics at A level, I may be teaching you in 7 years’ time when you are 18!
I think that talking about issues and debating ideas is so important in building your confidence, as well as your understanding of the wider world. I once set up the third best debate team in the country and have organised debating competitions for students at Upton against local schools and once against over 100 students from Italy.
Upton is a big school but in only a short space of time I was confident in trying to find my way around the site and this will be the same for you too.
Outside of school I spend most of my time reading or watching sport. I was born in Middlesbrough and so I have been cursed to support them ever since!
I look forward to meeting you all. Upton is a wonderful school, and you will have a great time here.
Miss Williams, Year 7 Tutor, 2021-22
A huge 'Hello!' to our new Year Sevens. My name is Miss Williams and I am one of the English teachers here at Upton. I am so looking forward to meeting and getting to know you all. I am sure that there are lots of stories that you will love to share, both with me and the new friends that you will soon be making here.
For now, I thought I would share with you a little bit about me.
I'm originally from North Wales and this probably explains my love of the outdoors, both the sea and the mountains.
Of course, I'm a bookworm! I am always asking about what you are currently reading. On my bedside table is “The Girl who Speaks Bear” by Sophie Anderson; I highly recommend it.
I am a netball player (you can guess the position I normally play) but I also thoroughly enjoy running, yoga and sometimes watching the odd game of rugby or football.
I am an avid concert and theatre goer - one of my favourite performances recently was “A Monster Calls”.
I am hoping I will have some drama and musical enthusiasts among you!
